Large privately owned floodplain mostly converted to agriculture. The plot was placed near the middle of a forested river peninsula. Most of the peninsula is successional forest dominated by black locust, black acherry and hawthorn. There is a highwater slew east of the plot. Toward the river the forest is more box elder-buckeye.;Occasionally flooded forested river peninsula. The canopy is mostly butternut and buckeye growing over a subcanopy of hawthorn. There is a dense lush tall herb layer dominated by Verbesena alternifolia, Leersia virginica, and Polygonum virginianum. The forest seems to occasionally flood with most of the flotsam consisting of rusted cans and barkless wood.
Representativeness
